Ludhiana tense after Sikhs-Police clash

There is tension in Ludhiana and several areas have been put under curfew after migrant labourers launched a violent protest on Friday against the police in action on a complaint.

Another bandh has been called in Ludhiana, after the death of a protester in Saturday's violence. The Punjab Police and administration in all districts of the state are on high alert. One person was killed and 15 others, including three policemen, were injured when Sikhs objecting to a religious congregation by sect head Ashutosh Maharaj clashed with police in Ludhiana on Saturday.
The policemen, including Deputy Superintendent of Patran in Patiala district, sustained injuries in the clash in which police used batons and teargas to quell the protestors.
