Major fire at Kolkata hospital
A major fire broke out at Kolkata's AMRI Hospital at around 3:30 am today, killing at least two people. Many more are feared trapped inside the hospital building.

Around 20 fire engines reached the spot to douse the fire. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived later to console heartbroken relatives.

The Chief Minister announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the victims.

This is the second major fire at the hospital in Dhakuria in south Kolkata. The first one happened in 2008.

Initial reports suggest that the fire may have been sparked by toxic material stored in the basement.

Rescue workers say they are moving patients that they come across into a building next door.

Meanwhile, anxious relatives wait for news of their loved ones, some of whom are still trapped inside the hospital.
