A major fire broke out at Kolkata's Surya Sen market early this morning.

The fire broke out at a multi-storey building in the market in central Kolkata around 5:30 am this morning. 20 fire engines have been used to bring the fire under control. -
The market houses many shops and several plastic and paper godowns. Many workers stay here overnight. -

Several people who are trapped inside the building have been rescued. Firefighters used gas-cutters to reach to them. -
Heavy smoke and narrow lanes leading to the market hampered the rescue work. The only exit gate in the building was blocked due to the fire. -
The exact cause of the fire is not known yet but initial report suggests it may have been caused due to a short circuit.
