The incident occurred inside a train at the London Underground station of Parsons Green, which has now been closed.

Several witnesses said on social media that there was "mass screaming, shouting and running".

Images from the train show a white bucket stashed in a carrier bag, which is said to have exploded, sending a "fireball" down the carriage.

The fire department, British Transport police and Scotland Yard have taken over the area and cordoned it off.
