Photos: The 5 Royals In Line To Succeed The Queen

This week, the British Royal Family had a new member - Prince Louis. Born to Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Louis is the 5th in line to succeed the Queen. We take a look at the line of succession in the Royal Family.

  • Prince Charles is the eldest child of Queen Elizabeth II and the heir apparent to the British throne. He has been the Prince of Wales - the title given to the heir apparent to the British monarch - since 1958 and is the longest serving heir apparent in British history. He was married to Princess Diana and has two children - Prince William and Prince Harry
  • Prince William, the oldest child of Prince Charles, is the second in line of succession to the British throne. Prince William is the Duke of Cambridge. Prince William served as a full-time pilot with the Royal Air Force Search and Rescue Force from 2009 to 2013. He is married to Catherine Middleton and has three children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
  • Prince George is the eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton. Prince George is third in line of succession after his paternal grandfather and his father. Prince George ocasionally goes with his parents on royal tours. The Prince George effect is named after him and is the trend that news about him has in business and pop culture.
  • 2-year-old Princess Charlotte is Prince William's only daughter and fourth in line of succession to the British throne.
  • Prince Louis is the latest addition to the Royal Family and fifth in line of succession to the British throne. According to old laws, he would have supplanted his older sister Charlotte in the line of succession to the throne, but a change in the law in 2013 means that he will be behind her in line.
