Rains hit rail, road traffic in Mumbai

After a day of heavy rains - the heaviest of the season - parts of the city and its immediate outskirts are still receiving heavy rainfall. Water-logging on railway tracks between Kalyan and Vithalwadi on the immediate outskirts of Mumbai meant services on the suburban central railway were disrupted. Yesterday, Mumbai and large parts of Maharashtra experienced incessant torrential rains after a lull of three days, throwing normal life out of gear. Five people were killed in a wall collapse incident in Amravati, officials said.

The Mumbai Traffic Police urged people to stay put and avoid unnecessary travel for the next few hours.

This is the heaviest rainfall Mumbai has received this season. The city recieved 185.3 mm rain in the last 24 hours.
