RRR Center, A New Home For Old And Unused Goods In Indore, India's Cleanest City

Indore has opened the doors of the first RRR centre to promote the concept of 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and use the items collected to help the needy people in the city.

  • It is not the 'RRR' that is basking in the Oscar glory and making the world go 'Nattu Nattu'. This RRR stands for 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle', a new centre that has opened in Indore, that has won the title of 'India's Cleanest City' six times.
  • The city's first RRR centre aims to encourage the practice of following 3Rs and also, help people in need. On Wednesday (May 17), Pushyamitra Bhargava, mayor of Indore inaugurated the Centre located at Rajkumar Bridge and directed the officers to ensure smooth operation.
  • "With the mantra of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle at the RRR centre, reusable items can be brought to use. These items will be made available to the needy people," said Pushyamitra Bhargava, mayor of Indore.
  • Citizens can donate old clothes, toys, shoes, furniture, books, and glasses among other items at the centre. These materials will be made usable and provided to the needy. For example, the waste cloth will be converted into bags.
  • "A large number of old books and textbooks are being deposited in the RRR centre. We are thinking of opening libraries in slums and keeping these books there," said Indore Municipal Corporation Commissioner Harshika Singh, as reported by news agency PTI.
  • Launched under the Mission LiFE programme, IMC has decided to set-up one RRR centre in each of the 19 zonal offices in the first phase.
