South Africa vs India, 1st Test: KL Rahul Shines With Hundred, India In Control Against South Africa At Stumps On Day 1

Opener KL Rahul produced a majestic knock in testing conditions en route to his sixth overseas century as India made a near perfect start to the Test series against South Africa, in Centurion on Sunday.

  • KL Rahul has put India on top on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test against South Africa with his unbeaten 122-run knock and he now also holds the record of the highest score by an Indian opener in South Africa.
  • Mayank Agarwal scored 60 runs on his first Test innings in South Africa while opening the batting for India with KL Rahul. Mayank added 117 runs with Rahul for the first wicket that set the tone for India's early control on Day 1.
  • Lungi Ngidi was the only successful bowler for South Africa on Day 1 as he has put a halt to India's early momentum with his three top-order wickets. Ngidi dismissed Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara (0) on consecutive balls and later removed Virat Kohli with a brilliant outswinger.
  • Indian captain Virat Kohli got out after adding 35 runs on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test. He looked in great touch but yet again failed to score big. Kohli stitched to a 92-run partnership with KL Rahul for the third wicket after Ngidi removed Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara on consecutive deliveries.
  • Struggling with form, Ajinkya Rahane was selected over Shreyas Iyer who scored a Test hundred on his debut last month against New Zealand. Rahane didn't disappoint on Day 1 as he is unbeaten on 40 and played with a confident approach so far.
