  • As the announcement was made in New Delhi, there were celebrations in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh with the students of Osmania University calling off their agitation.
  • The protest march to the Andhra Assembly that the students had called will now be a Victory March.
  • Announcing the government's decision on Wednesday, Home Minister P Chidambaram said: "An appropriate resolution will be moved in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly." Thus, Andhra Pradesh will now be split into two states.
  • Andhra Pradesh has been on the boil over the last few days as TRS had intensified its demands for a separate Telangana state. Students of Osmania University even clashed with the police when they were prevented from holding a rally in the University campus.
  • At least a 100 students and teachers were arrested for violating Section 144 which was imposed in all the 10 districts of the Telangana region. Twenty three vehicles were also damaged in the clashes.
