Telangana turmoil: protests, bandh in Andhra Pradesh

No vehicles were seen on major roads in Visakhapatnam.

In Vijayawada, NH 5 and NH 9 came to a standstill. Vehicles had been blocked on the arterial highway that connects Chennai, and other important locations on the southeast coast such as Srikakulam, Vishakhapatnam, all the way to Kolkata in West Bengal.

It was Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSR Congress versus Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party on MG road in Vijaywada. Both parties tried to outnumber each other at a protest rally against the Congress and its decision to form a separate statehood for Telangana.

All roads to Tirupati are blocked by large groups protesting against the government's decision to proceed with the division of Andhra Pradesh.

Devotees heading to the famous Tirumala temple are completing their journey by foot.

For nearly two months, the other two regions of Andhra Pradesh- Rayalseema and Coastal Andhra, jointly referred to as "Seemandhra" - have been witnessing daily demonstrations by those who demand a "United Andhra." Tirupati lies in the Rayalseema area.
