Unruly MPs hold up Women's Bill

The Rajya Sabha witnessed unprecendented scenes leading to an adjournment for the third time on Monday as determined SP, RJD, LJP and BSP members entered the well of the House, ripped off mikes and tore up papers in an attempt to stall the Women's Reservation Bill from being taken up for consideration.

  • History would have been created had the Women's Reservation Bill been passed by Parliament on International Women's Day, incidentally the 100th this year on March 8. But that was not to be.<br><br>Instead, the Parliament witnessed a new low as members of political parties, opposed to the Bill, created pandemonium in the House over the issue, leading to its deferment till Tuesday.
