USHA Silai School Creates New Opportunities For Women In Partnership With SIDBI
SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India) under its flagship initiative Mission Swavalamban, has partnered with USHA for promoting entrepreneurship among rural women. The collaboration is venturing out for setting up 2,450 USHA Swavalamban Silai Schools which will be done in three phases across various villages of India. The objective of Mission Swavalamban is to shift the focus from job-seekers to job-creators.

There were many struggles in the life of Sandna Devi, before she could make a name for herself. She sought help from many people during time of her struggles, but it was her meeting with the head of the panchayat that proved to be the turning point in her life as he introduced her to the Silai School initiative.

Gouri Debnath was used to multi-tasking - from doing her tailoring work to make ends meet, to running the household and looking after her young son and aging mother. Joining the USHA Silai School Project in January 2014, as one of their trainees, brought new hope to her and her family. She says that today whatever she has been able to do is because of USHA and it is a matter of pride for her.
