Around 90 vehicles were set on fire in Pune's Sinhagad locality
Pune: 90 vehicles, mostly two-wheelers, were set on fire by unidentified persons in a residential area in Pune in the early hours today. No casualties have been reported.
The incident occurred between 3 am and 4 am in the Sinhagad locality where fuel tubes of the vehicles - 84 of them were two-wheelers while the the rest were cars - in the parking lot of six housing societies were unplugged and then the vehicles were set ablaze.
25 motorbikes used by delivery boys of a pizza shop, situated in one of the buildings, were destroyed in the fire.
"The motive is not clear. It could be to spread panic," he said police inspector B Kashid of Sinhgad police station.
Cops are now on the lookout for a person who was caught on CCTV cameras, setting the vehicles on fire.
One person has been detained in connection with the incident.
The police said that this similar incidents had taken place a few times in the last six months; fewer vehicles were damaged. in those cases.
Most of those cases, police said, involved gang wars but sources say the situation could be different this time since only one person was seen in the CCTV footage.
