Pune:
Even as it took more than a year to provide justice to a 25-year-old married woman who was gang-raped on April 1, 2010 in Hinjewadi, the rape convicts did not seem to show any sign of remorse as they walked out of court yesterday. The convicts, who will be awarded their jail term tomorrow, waved out and brandished victory signs to their family members waiting in the court premises.
Additional Judge WC Sangale convicted Subhash Hiralal Bhosale (30), Ranjit Shahaji Gade (26) and Ganesh Uttam Kamble (26) for raping a 25-year-old married woman. The victim, who has a Master in Hospital Administration degree, had come down from the United States to settle down in Pune. On April 1, as she was waiting for some conveyance to go home in the evening, the victim got into a car presuming it to be a share taxi.
The three men in the car took her to an isolated place near Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park and raped her at knife point. Kamble and Gade, who hail from Osmanabad district, are auto rickshaw drivers, while Bhosale is a cab driver at a call centre.
A relative of the victim who was present at the court said, "We decided to fight this case only to encourage other victims of sexual exploitation to come ahead and fight for justice." As the victim's relatives left the courtroom silently, the families of the convicts, mainly women, were seen hugging and giving blessings till the convicts boarded the police vehicle.
