Pune: Gold ornaments worth Rs 50 lakh were allegedly stolen from a temple in Mandai area here this morning, police said.
The robbery took place in the Mandai Ganesh temple situated in the heart of the city, they said, adding that the robber was caught in the CCTV camera installed in the temple.
"We are investigating the case. Since the robber is caught on CCTV camera, we will find him very soon. We have alerted all police stations about this theft," senior Police Inspector Hemant Bhat of Vishrambaug police station said.
Anna Thorat, chairman of Akhil Mandai Mandal, which manages the temple, informed that the total weight of the stolen gold ornaments, which were adorning the idols of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Sharada, is 2,200 grams.
