Pune:
Sameer Eknath Dhotre (24), a teacher at Khivansara Patil School in Thergaon, was arrested by of the Hinjewadi police station officials on Monday night for brutalising a girl student. The action was initiated based on the complaint lodged by the girl's parents.
Officials said the incident occurred at 10 am on Monday, after the girl scribbled something on the bench. Manjusha (name changed) was attending Dhotre's lecture, when she realised that he had made grammatical errors in his speech. She immediately scribbled that sentence on the bench. Her partner saw this and laughed out loudly.
This angered Dhotre and he asked Manjusha to conduct the remainder of the lecture. Without prior warning, Dhotre lunged at the girl and started hitting her with a wooden stick. Unable to bear the pain and the trauma she had gone through, Manjusha fainted.
"He was beating and humiliating my daughter in front of her classmates for two hours. When he exhausted himself, he asked another student to beat her. He also kicked my daughter," the girl's father alleged. "She wasn't even able to explain her mother properly what had happened in the classroom. We both went to Dhotre's residence to seek an explanation for treating our daughter inhumanly, but he refused to come out. We than decided to lodge a police complaint against him."
Manjusha's mother demanded stringent action against Dhotre and said it would serve as a deterrent for teachers, who will be compelled to think twice before mistreating other children in the school.
School authorities constituted a committee yesterday to investigate into this matter. "We will take a strict action against the teacher, if proven guilty. We are expecting the committee's report on Wednesday," chairperson of the school education committee Advocate Sateesh Gorde said yesterday.
