The court of additional sessions judge, HS Mahajan, on Thursday awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to JP alias Jayprakash Manilal Upadhyay (28) from Uttar Pradesh, for killing his friend over a money dispute.
The prosecution said Gopal Jayprakash (22), who was working as a security guard with city-based Jayhind Security Services, had borrowed money from Upadhyay. On February 17, 2009, Upadhyay had gone to the residence of Jayprakash at Anand Park Mira Society and started abusing him for not returning his money.
Later, Upadhyay shot at Jayprakash with a countrymade pistol and left the spot. After preliminary treatment at Sassoon General Hospital, Jayprakash went to his native place in Uttar Pradesh, where he succumbed to the gunshot injuries on June 14, 2009. Additional public prosecutor Chandrakiran Salvi pleaded the case and examined 10 witnesses. The court observed the ballistic report and the dying declaration of Jayprakash. The court also ordered the convict to pay Rs5,000 as fine.
