Pune:
A group of young men and women, accompanied by their parents, met the Superintendent of Police demanding action against the cops who had allegedly beaten and detained them after a raid at Maya Restaurant and lounge bar in Pune on September 1.
The police had conducted a raid at Maya bar, owned by the wife of an Anti-Terror Squad officer where over 300 young students and professionals were partying.
The cops detained the party-goers for 11 hours and subjected them all to a blood test, while also slapping them with charges of indecent behaviour. The police also allegedly roughed up some of them.
The organisers say they had paid Rs. 8000 for a liquor permit till 11 pm. The police, however, say it was only eyewash.
According to police, the raids were conducted after they received complaints from locals about the loud music and indecent behaviour by the party-goers every night.
The police have blamed the restaurant, accusing the organisers of violating party norms and serving liquor beyond the stipulated limit. The youngsters are demanding an explanation as to why they were harassed if the party organisers were at fault, and why they were forced to undergo a blood test when a breath analyser test would have sufficed to determine if they were drunk.
