Pune:
An unidentified man believed to be about 20 years of age was found bludgeoned to death on a secluded stretch near Woodland hotel, close to the Pune railway station.
The person was found to have old cut marks on his forearms, which are typically found in case of drug addicts.
The police control room received a call about the body about 8.15 am. The Bundgarden police reached the spot and found a person lying motionless with his head smashed.
The person, suspected to be a pickpocket, was found murdered at Agakhan lane near Woodland hotel on Connaught road last morning.
Inspector Sudhakar Kate of the Bundgarden police station, who is investigating the case, said that there were severe injuries on the head of the deceased.
Kate said the suspects had used a cement block to bludgeon the victim to death. The incident may have taken place in the wee hours, he said.
Kate said the identity of the deceased has not yet been ascertained.
"We have taken photographs of the victim and are trying to establish his identity by showing his pictures to various persons. The identity of the attackers involved in the incident will be revealed thereafte," said Kate.
The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem and the report is awaited.
