Pune:
A 35-year-old zilla parishad teacher, Prabhakar Thakuji Burse, allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl in the chamber of the school's headmaster on December 9 at Kaman village in Rajgurunagar taluka, about 40 km from Pune.
The victim, the daughter of a cobbler, has lodged a complaint with the Rajgurunagar police station. The suspect is absconding.
The incident came to light when some of the classmates of the victim informed their parents about the incident.
Police sub-inspector Seema Dhakane of Rajgurunagar police station said, "On December 9, students of standard VI and VII were having a combined class. Around 12.30 pm, Burse took all students to the ground to practice kabaddi. When the students were playing, Burse called the victim and her friend and took them to the headmaster's cabin.
The police said Burse told the victim's friend to stand outside the office and locked the door. The victim tried to scream, but he gagged her with a handkerchief and committed the crime. Moreover, he threatened to kill the victim if she revealed the incident to anyone.
Burse is working as a teacher in the school for the last 10 years. He is now the class teacher of standard VII, which has 12 students. Zilla parishad member Yamuna Ubhe (Wada-Kadus ward) said, "This is a serious issue. If the teacher is guilty, we will take stern action against Burse.''
