Pune: Police have detained a new suspect in connection with torching of about 90 vehicles after his profile matched considerably with the image of the person seen in the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage obtained from parking lots' of residential societies.
Joint Commissioner of Police S Ramanand told reporters in Pune that the suspect who was originally picked up by the police late last night in connection with a murder in the Sinhagad Road area, was subsequently found to resemble the individual seen in the CCTV footage.
"The police is interrogating the person whose profile matches the individual seen in the CCTV footage of the fire incident on Sinhagad Road," the police official said, adding, that he appeared to be an alcoholic.
About 90 vehicles, mostly two wheelers and a few cars, in the parking space of various residential societies in the Sun City area on Sinhagad Road were set on fire on Sunday morning.
Police had earlier detained a suspect in this connection but he was let off after interrogation.
