Pune:
A 77-year-old widow, Hirabai Suryabhan Athere-Patil hailing from Kopargaon in neighbouring Ahmednagar district, has accused her elder son and his family of ill-treating her for greed of property.
She alleged that Sunil, his wife Rajashree, and daughter Gayatri used to thrash her and issue threats to kill her.
The widow owns a sprawling bungalow in Koregaon. Sunil, who is a lawyer, and his family stay in Pune. Hirabai's daughter Ujawala (50), who resides in Pune, lodged an FIR at the Kopargaon police station against the trio and five other people on November 25.
The hapless widow and her daughter told reporters here on Thursday that the ill-treatment is due to property.
"Sunil wants his share of property," alleged Ujawala, claiming that the widow was often being beaten up by her son. The widow said Sunil visited her house with some women and men armed with batons on November 22 when she, her daughter and the caretaker of the house, Farida Sayyed (42), were there.
"They assaulted us and locked us in a room for a day. I was not allowed to go to toilet or have medicines," the widow alleged.She said they managed to come out of the house from the back gate next day and took a lift from a police van and came to Pune. The widow contacted Ahmednagar SP Krishna Prakash, who assured her of help, and later lodged an FIR against them.
She also alleged that his younger son, Anil, who is medical practitioner and stays separately in Ahmednagar, too is active behind the scenes and instigates Sunil.The widow's husband, who was a noted lawyer, too was ill-treated by the sons. He passed away in 2004. Sunil alleged that his sister has prompted their mother to lodge a case against him and his family.
"My sister is eyeing the property," Sunil alleged, adding that he too has filed an FIR against his sister on November 22 for allegedly stealing Rs9 lakh.Sub-inspector of Koregaon police station UK Mulani said it is a case of property dispute.
