Pune: The Pune Cantonment Court yesterday slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each on Jayant Pawar, the nephew of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, and Kishor Sharad Pingale in connection with an underage liquor party at Hotel Riverview on August 25.
Pawar owns the hotel while Pingle is the landowner. Pawar has been given the land on lease by Pingle for 30 years. A case was registered against the two at the Mundhwa police station under Sections 33 and 131 of the Bombay Police Act, and on Monday both Pawar and Pingale were asked to be present in court the next day.
Slapping the fine on the two, Judicial Magistrate (First Class) V Muglikar gave Pawar and Pingale a piece of his mind and said they could not shrug off responsibility for what happened.
Advocate Sunil Ghumre, who represented Pingale, said the landowner was not responsible for whatever happened as he had leased the land to Pawar and had no idea what was happening at the hotel. Pawar's counsel Gaurav Jachak said his client was not to blame as he was not the event organiser.
