Pune:
In a shocking incident, allegedly caused by jealousy, a woman in Pune tried to drown four children of her neighbour by pushing them into a canal on Thursday. Three of them were saved by passers-by, but they could not trace the youngest one.
The family of the four boys alleges the neighbour, Sangeeta, was jealous that Alka, victim's mother, had four sons, while she only had daughters.
"The children had gone to her house to watch a movie. She doesn't have a son. She had wanted to adopt one my grandsons two years back. I had refused," said Nanda Misar, victim's grandmother.
"Yesterday the accused lady took the children out on the pretext of getting them ice-creams and then tried to drown them in a canal," said Dnyaneshwar Phadtare, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pune.
Nine-year-old Rohit, seven-year-old Rahul and five-year-old Amol held on to the embankment, and screamed, catching the attention of passers-by, who saved them.
But they could not spot three-year-old Tejas, the youngest of the four boys, and his body is yet to be found.
Police sources tell NDTV that the two families might have been involved in a monetary dispute too, but no one can fathom what exactly drove Sangeeta to such monstrosity.
