Nagapattinam:
A total of 100 huts were gutted and property worth several lakhs of Rupees destroyed in a fire at a colony in Mayiladuthurai in the district, but no casualties were reported, police said.
The fire broke out at around 8.00 am in the colony and soon spread to nearby huts, fanned by strong winds.
Fire tenders from Mayiladuthurai, Thirukkadaiyur, Porayar, Sirkazhi and other places rushed to the spot and fought the flames for more than three hours before dousing it.
Officials said there was no loss of life as the fire had broken out during daytime. The exact reason for the fire was not immediately known, they said.
