Chennai:
Twenty two Indian fishermen were reportedly arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy this morning for violating the country's international maritime boundary.
According to reports, many of these fishermen are from the Karuvaikulam village of Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin district.
The Lankan navy has also secured three boats belonging to these fishermen, reports say.
Authorities in Tamil Nadu say they are in the process of collecting more information. Attempts to contact the Lankan Deputy High Commission in Chennai failed.
Tension prevails between the fishermen of the two countries who regularly cross into each other's territorial waters.
Fishermen in Sri Lanka's north last month staged a protest march to ask authorities to prevent Indian fishermen from poaching in Sri Lankan waters.
