Mandapam, Tamil Nadu:
In a major haul, the Marine Police today seized 35 kg of gold biscuits valued at Rs 10.5 crore and arrested two persons at Mandapam, Tamil Nadu.
Marine Police Inspector Kumaravel told PTI that during regular patrolling, his team spotted two persons moving in a suspicious manner after disembarking from a boat at Mandapam.
On checking, the team found that the two were carrying a parcel around their waists containing gold biscuits.
The customs officials have been informed and the duo - Tamilarasan (42) and Kalidass (29) - arrested, he said.
The gold had been brought from Sri Lanka. This was the first time that such a large quantity of gold had been seized by the Marine Police in a coastal area, though similar seizures had been made in Nagapattinam district, Q Branch Police Inspector, Kennedy said.
