Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu:
Five members of the Puthiya Jananayaka Thozhilalar Munnetra Sangam-a trade union were arrested today in Sivaganga for allegedly pasting posters in support of the conviction of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in a corruption case.
Police said cases were registered against them under section 505(1)(b) of the Indian Penal Code (conducting public mischief) and disfigurement of public properties.
Ms Jayalalithaa, 66, was in the middle of her third term as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister when she was convicted late last month for corruption in 18-year-old case. She says the charges against her are politically motivated.
