Udhagamandalam: About 500 kg of detonators used in quarries was seized today from a jeep at Barliar checkpost, about 40 km from Udhagamandalam in Tamil Nadu and two persons taken into custody in this connection, police said.
The seizure was effected during a routine vehicle check, they said, adding the detonators were found packed in 20 boxes in the Kerala bound vehicle.
Preliminary inquiries revealed the detonators were being transported from Pennagaram in Dharmapuri district to Wayanad in Kerala.
The two arrested included a man who had a license to deal and supply detonators in Wayanad and the jeep driver. However he did not have valid documents to transport them via Nilgiris district, they said.
