Rameswaram: Days after releasing all the arrested fishermen from Tamil Nadu, the Sri Lankan Navy today arrested 75 fishermen and seized their 18 mechanised fishing boats, Fisheries Department sources said.
Of the arrested, 25 were from Rameswaram and remaining from Jagadapattinam, Thanjavur and Karaikal, the sources said.
They were arrested while fishing near Katchatheeevu and Nedunthivu in the Palk Straits for using fishing nets banned by Sri Lanka.
The island nation had two days back released 140 fishermen from Tamil Nadu to facilitate the proposed talks between fishermen's representatives and officials of the two countries to solve the dispute arising out of fishing in the Palk Straits.
