Eight persons, including six students, were killed and one injured when their car got crushed between two lorries near a toll post at Medchal on the city outskirts, police said today.
The mishap occurred at around midnight last night, when a speeding lorry rammed into the Multi-Purpose Vehicle from behind which in-turn hit a stationary truck.
As a result, the MPV got crushed between the two lorries resulting in the death of eight of its occupants on the spot, said Assistant Commissioner of Police (Petbasheerabad Division) S Ashok Kumar.
"One person suffered injuries in the accident and has been shifted to a hospital. His condition is out of danger," the ACP said, adding that six of the deceased were students of engineering and degree colleges.
The deceased, all friends in their 20s and 30s, were from Sadashivpet in Medak district of Telangana. They were on their way to attend a reception function to Kompally here, the officer said.
The driver of the lorry which hit the MPV from the behind has been taken into custody and after questioning will be placed under arrest, the ACP said.
Further investigation is on, police added.
