92 villages in Tamil Nadu to be covered under national sample survey

Coimbatore: About 92 villages and an equal number of urban blocks in the 13 districts of Tamil Nadu West Region would be covered under the 69th round of National Sample Survey from July to December 2012.

This round is earmarked for collection of data on drinking water, sanitation, hygiene, housing conditions and urban slums, an official release said in Coimbatore today.

Results emanating from these surveys have encouraged informed public debate and helped the Central and State governments in formulating strategy for inclusive growth and development, it said.

Using the data of the survey important indicators on quality of life, like availability and sources of drinking water, and house condition like type of house per capita floor areas, will be developed.

These indicators will help monitoring attaining of Millenium Development Goals.

Villages and blocks of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Karur and Ariyalur districts have been chosen for the survey, the release added.
