Bangalore:
Trying to shed the tag of "father and son's party", Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) appointed A Krishnappa, a former Congress leader, as its Karnataka unit chief.
Mr Krishnappa, who joined the JD-S in April after being denied ticket by Congress for assembly election, succeeds HD Kumaraswamy, son of party president HD Deve Gowda.
Mr Gowda announced the appointment of MR Krishnappa after a meeting of senior leaders in Bangalore.
Mr Kumaraswamy quit the post following the party's loss in the August 21 bypolls to Bangalore Rural and Mandya Lok Sabha seats, considered JD-S bastion. Mandya is about 80 km from Bangalore.
Mr Krishnappa belongs to the Yadav community and was a Congress legislator on four occasions. He lost the assembly poll contesting as a JD-S candidate.
