A court in Puducherry's Karaikal today awarded life sentence to the accused in the Vinothini acid attack case.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh, and ordered Rs 50000 to be given to Vinothini's parents as compensation.
In November 2012, 24 year-old Suresh, a building contractor, threw nitric acid on techie Vinothini, 21, after she turned down his proposal to marry her.
Vinothini, who had also lost her sight in the attack, died after battling for 90 days.
Vinothini was targeted when she and her father were walking towards a bus station at Karaikal to come to Chennai after Diwali. Her father too had suffered injuries.
The court also awarded two years Rigorous Imprisonment for causing injury.
