C Perumal, AIADMK member representing Yercaud constituency in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, died at a private hospital today following cardiac arrest.
62-year-old Perumal is survived by wife and four sons.
Mr Perumal, an agriculturist, was earlier elected from the constituency in 1989 and 1991.
AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa condoled Mr Perumal's death. She said Mr Perumal had great respect for the party high command and in AIADMK principles, while recalling he had been lodged in prison over various party-sponsored protests.
He had strived for the welfare of the people and was an affable person, she said in a statement, adding, he had earned the goodwill of people of his constituency.
His death was a great loss to AIADMK and his Yercaud constituency, she said and expressed her sympathies with his family.
