Madurai: Madras High Court bench today granted anticipatory bail till September 3 to former Union
Minister and expelled DMK leader, M K Alagiri in a land grab case.
Mr Alagiri, who is the son of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, is accused of forging documents of land belonging to Vinayagar temple for an engineering college run by him.
Justice K Kalyanasundaram granted bail to Alagiri till September 3 and posted the case for hearing on that date.
Mr Alagiri, founder-president of M K Alagiri Educational Trust submitted that the trust has been set up to provide education for poor students. It had constructed Daya Engineering college and had purchased several tracts of land.
Mr Alagari has refused the charges and said they had been brought with malafide intentions.
He said the land was brought from a private individual and said there were two civil suits regarding the land pending in courts.
