After the attack on Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh Police have decided to increase vigil in districts bordering the state and also neighbouring Odisha.
To curb Maoist activities in the coming years, special attention will be paid to East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts, Inspector General of Police (North Coastal Zone) D Tirumala Rao said at a press conference.
However, there was no plan to deploy additional police force in any coastal Andhra district, including Visakhapatnam, a Maoist hotbed having connectivity with Chhattisgarh, which last month saw a major Naxal raid, and Odisha, he said.
He said though organised criminal activities have come down in parts of coastal districts, tackling cybercrime and fraud cases involving fly-by-night companies have emerged as new challenges for the police force.
Accompanied by Eluru Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Vikram Singh Mann, Rao stressed on the need of adopting new technology to curb cybercrimes.
