Andhra Pradesh Special Protection Force to expand manpower

Hyderabad: Special Protection Force (SPF), set up by the State Government for the security of vital installations and industrial units, is recruiting more personnel in view of growing demand for its services.

There is an increasing demand for utilisation of SPF from new units. In order to meet the additional manpower, recruitment of 32 Sub-Inspectors and 645 Constables is currently in progress, SPF Director General TP Das said in a release.

The armed force, which also guards the Government establishments, has received Rs 124.45 crore towards the cost of deployment charges from various user units in the state during the fiscal 2011-12, the release said.

The SPF has been deployed at 156 organisations, including Government of India establishments and corporate sector entities.

During 2011-12, fresh deployment of SPF took place at the state's Legislative Assembly and Council, KG Reliance Basin in Kakinada, Bharat Electronics Limited besides Uranium Corporation of India at Pulivendula in Kadapa district.

Proposals are being finalised for SPF deployments at Gangavaram Port in Visakhapatnam, National Informatics Centre here and at establishments under the Department of Space, the Director General said.

SPF is introducing new service courses at its Training Academy at Ameenpur in Medak district to reorient the force for better performance, keeping in view the present day threats and utilisation of security gadgets, Mr Das added.
