Andhra Pradesh to roll out Aadhaar-based services

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh is likely to become the first state in the country to roll out Aadhaar- based services.

The Centre has informed the state authorities that five districts - Hyderabad, Chittoor, East Godavari, Ranga Reddy and Anantapur - have been identified for initiating certain government schemes based on Aadhaar (unique identification number) on a pilot basis. Andhra Pradesh has achieved an enrolment of 5.20 crore people, accounting for 26 per cent of country-wide enrolment.

This was informed at a high-level review meeting on Aadhaar, chaired by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

A release from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said Andhra Pradesh has a population of 8,46,65,533 and the total enrolment for Aadhaar cards in the state so far is 5,20,09,331.

The total number of Aadhaar cards generated is 4,49,89,401, which is 86 per cent of the enrolment. Letters have been delivered to 3,65,69,376 others, the release said.

The Chief Minister agreed to a proposal for total enrolment of Aadhaar in the next few months, the release added.
