Andhra Pradesh will witness a demand-supply gap of nearly 3.7 million of manpower by 2020, according to a top official of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
Speaking at a conclave organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry-Andhra Pradesh in Hyderabad today, NSDC Managing Director and Chief Executive Dilip Chenoy said the incremental manpower demand in Andhra Pradesh is estimated to be about 6.3 million from 2012 till 2017 and 4.8 million from 2017 till 2022.
According to him, the current demographic and economic profile of Andhra Pradesh presents a huge opportunity for manpower skills and the state is expected to have a workforce of around 44 million by 2022.
"Around 85 per cent of the new workforce to be added in the state by 2022 will be minimally-skilled and rest only 15 per cent will be skilled and semi-skilled. Incremental manpower demand in Andhra Pradesh is estimated to be about 62.77 lakh from 2012 till 2017 and 47.64 lakh from 2017 till 2022.
"During the period 2012-22, the demand supply gap of the state is expected to be about 36.7 lakh. The state will need to skill the workforce being added each year in additional skills as required by the industries," Chenoy said.
NSDC and Accenture Services Private Ltd released a district-wise skill gap study for the state.
The study focuses on identifying the district-level manpower requirement across skill levels and sectors for the period 2012 to 2022. The report also proposes recommendation for skill development initiatives in the state for key stakeholders.
