Hyderabad : Andhra Police Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) G R Radhika scaled the 5980-metre Golep Kangri peak, located in the Zanskar range of the Western Himalayas, near the Karakoram range.
Radhika, who is currently deputed to Additional Director General (ADG - Sports) Rajiv Trivedi for training, scaled the Golep Kangri peak at around 4 pm on, September 20, an official release said in Hyderabad today.
She was his trainee at the Andhra Pradesh Police Academy a few years ago and was always physically fit and mentally tough, Trivedi said.
She had to battle high winds, sub-zero temperatures, rock faces, treacherous crevices and lack of oxygen, to become the first ever officer of the AP Police to scale a peak this high, Trivedi said.
By the end of this year, she plans to scale a few more peaks higher than 20,000 feet, the ADG said.
Trivedi had recommended her a few months ago for the basic mountaineering course at the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports, Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, which she completed with distinction.
After ascertaining her calibre, Trivedi nominated her again last month for the advanced mountaineering course at the same institute.
After the course, Radhika went on a week-long expedition to Golep Kangri peak to test her skills and successfully scaled the peak after an arduous climb.
"Considering her fitness, determination and systematic approach, DSP Radhika may even scale the Everest if she gets the right support," Trivedi said in the release.
