New Delhi:
The Centre has made it clear that increasing the number of assembly seats of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana can be possible only after 2026.
This was conveyed by Minister of State for Home Haribhai Chaudhary to TRS MP B Vinod Kumar in a letter earlier this month after the issue of initiating the process of delimitation of constituencies in Telangana by the Election Commission was raised in Lok Sabha.
"It is mentioned here that subject to the provisions contained in Article 170 of the Constitution and without prejudice to Section 15 of this Act, the number of seats of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is likely to be increased from 175 and 119 to 225 and 153, respectively and delimitation of the constituencies may be determined by the Election Commission. This can be possible only after 2026, as provided under Article 170 of the Constitution," Mr Chaudhary said in his letter.
Mr Kumar shot off a letter to the Minister today expressing his disappointment over the issue.
