As a part of ensuring the health and hygiene of animals, the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) has announced the opening of a 'Zoo Store and Kitchen Complex' within the zoo premises.
The facility has been created for the first time in the zoo to receive and stock the monthly required feeding articles in a clean and hygienic manner, BBP Executive Director R Raju said in a press statement.
The complex was inaugurated by IM Nanjunadaswamy, Chairman, Zoo Authority of Karnataka in the presence of the Member Secretary, Zoo Authority of Karnataka, Executive Director, BBP.
A definite system of receipt and distribution from store to the animal enclosure will be ensured by way of this new store concept, the statement said.
Further a dedicated kitchen to cook the grains for elephants and other larger animals and also to clean and convert the fruits and vegetables to edible standard and status has been started.
With this new method of food supply and its management, the health and hygienic of the animals will be ensured, it said.
The BBP has launched additional recreational facilities like boating in the Kavalkere located within the zoo premises. This initiative has been launched on a trial basis.
Currently, one pedal boat and a rowing boat are put into service for benefit of tourists. Actual tariff and timings of the boating is being worked out and shall be notified shortly.
The BBP also announced the proposal for construction of "an administrative block" at a cost of Rs 150 lakh.
