In a novel mode of campaign, a senior bishop of the Church of South India (CSI) today led a morning walk in Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's hometown Puthupally in Kottayam to prevail upon the state government to further tighten its anti-liquor policy.
Thomas K Oommen, Bishop of CSI's Central Kerala Diocese, who led the walk, said it is not directed against anybody but is being done for the well-being of the society as a whole.
"We are not against anybody. We want the Government to further strengthen its liquor policy to lead the state to total prohibition," he said.
Though other churches including the Catholic establishment had also pledged support to the CSI's campaign, however no clergy or lay members from any of them took part in it.
Chandy is away in New Delhi to attend a meeting of Chief Ministers convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
