BJP's Karnataka crisis: 13 legislators quit officially
Bangalore: The BJP government in Karnataka, which has been in perma-crisis mode for months, is now visiting a new problem. 13 state legislators have submitted their resignations formally to the Speaker of the Assembly, KG Bopaiah.

The rebels are loyal to BS Yeddyurappa, who quit the BJP in December after four decades, blaming the party for refusing to give him a significant post in the state. He was removed as chief minister after he was indicted for corruption in a report on illegal mining.

Among the legislators who have quit today are two ministers. The group decided last week to quit the party, but was forced to wait till the Speaker returned from a tour.

If another five legislators resign, the government - the BJP's first in the South - will be reduced to a minority.

Newly-elected BJP president Rajnath Singh has said that's not going to happen, and has met with Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar.
