BS Yeddyurappa granted anticipatory bail in graft case

Bangalore: There was some relief on Thursday for former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa who had been going through a rough patch of late.

The Karnataka High Court granted him anticipatory bail in a case filed by the CBI against Mr Yeddyurappa and his sons and son in law on the charges of receiving kickbacks from mining firms in return for favours during the time when Mr Yeddyurappa was chief minister.

Anticipatory bail was also granted to his two sons and son in law.

It is alleged that a trust run by Mr Yeddyurappa's sons received crores worth of donations from a mining firm, and also that the firm paid an amount much over the market rate for land in Bangalore sold to it by Mr Yeddyurappa's relatives

The anticipatory bail had earlier been rejected by the CBI special court.

Mr Yeddyurappa himself has already spent time in jail until he was granted bail in an earlier charge of illegal land deals. But he has not let the corruption charges slow down his political ambitions. He continues to stir things up in the state BJP and is still reportedly pushing for the removal of his successor Sadananda Gowda - a man he had ironically chosen himself as a replacement.
