Salem: Few activists belonging to a pro-Tamil outift allegedly threw a burning wooden log inside the premises of the Income Tax office in Salem today, protesting against External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid confirming his participation at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Sri Lanka next month.
The activists belonging to the Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam damaged the gate lights also, police said.
They had set the log ablaze after wrapping it in a gunny bag dipped in petrol. They threw the log inside the premises at 5 am.
Some pamphlets were also thrown inside the premises asking the Centre to respect the feelings and sentiments of Tamilians and asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Mr Khurshid not to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
The incident comes a day after two petrol bombs were hurled at two post offices in Chennai in the wee hours yesterday.
Four persons belonging to the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam were arrested in this connection.
Some political parties in Tamil Nadu have been demanding that India boycott the CHOGM to be held in Sri Lanka next month over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.
