Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu and his family members own assets worth Rs.41.70 crore.
For the third consecutive year, the former Andhra Pradesh chief minister declared his and family members' assets.
The assets last year were valued at Rs.35.59 crore while the same were Rs.40 crore in 2011.
Mr Naidu's personal assets are valued at Rs.42.06 lakh, up from Rs.31.97 lakh last year.
His wife Bhuvaneswari, who heads the family's business venture Heritage Foods, owns assets worth Rs.33.05 crore. Her assets last year were Rs.24.57 crore.
Mr Naidu's son N Lokesh is worth Rs.4.92 core, down from Rs.6.62 crore last year. His wife Brahmani, daughter of Mr Naidu's brother-in-law and leading Telugu film actor Nanadamuri Balakrishna, has assets of Rs.3.30 crore against Rs.2.09 crore declared last year.
Mr Naidu, who was chief minister from 1994 to 2004, said Heritage Foods was functioning with transparency and recorded a growth of 14.96 percent in the last fiscal. "The company is not making profits because of anybody's favours," he told reporters.
Refuting allegations of his political rivals that he owned assets worth Rs.2,000 crores, Mr Naidu said if they proved the allegations he would transfer the same to them.
The leader of opposition said he had been declaring the assets every year as he was accountable to people. He said all politicians should make their assets public to bring transparency in public life. He called for a legislation to make it mandatory for all those in public life to declare their and their family members' assets.
