Chennai: The Madras High Court has reserved its orders on a batch of petitions relating to last October's Chennai Corporation elections, including one seeking re-poll in 239 booths.
On conclusion of arguments by counsel for the petitioners and Tamil Nadu government, a division bench comprising Justices D Murugesan and K K Sasidharan reserved their order.
The petitioners sought simultaneous counting of votes polled for the posts of mayor and councillors.
A contempt petition had also been filed charging the State Election Commissioner and the then Chennai Corporation Commissioner with "wantonly failing" to draw any plan of action and neglecting to implement the court orders in letter and spirit.
The court had made it clear that counting and issuance of certificates to the winning candidates could go on as scheduled, but that the counting and publication of the results would be subject to the result of the petitions.
