Chennai: The state capital of Tamil Nadu is geared up for the Republic Day celebrations next Sunday, as all contingents carried out their first rehearsal on the main thoroughfare along Marina Beach in Chennai today.
Contingents of various central forces, different armed wings of the state police, NCC cadets and schoolchildren marched to the tune of their bands in uniforms this morning.
With police announcing traffic diversions flowing through Kamarajar Salai and other nearby roads, parents taking their children to schools along Santhome High Road were made to take different routes.
Traffic on Kamarajar Salai will be blocked again on January 22, 24 and 26.
The Anna Square bus terminus will be temporarily operated on Wallajah Road near Government Guest House, police said.
